AviGrade follows the grading methodology defined by EASA and ICAO, and says clearly where it adds its own choices.
Grading as defined by EASA (AMC4 ORO.FC.231(d)(1), VENN model): HOW MANY derived from the observable behaviours marked, HOW OFTEN and the TEM outcome chosen by the evaluator, and the grade is the lowest of the three.

No. All evaluation data is stored exclusively on your device and, if enabled, in your private iCloud account. AviGrade has no backend servers and no access to your data.
Yes. By default each competency is graded on the EASA scale (VENN model, AMC4 ORO.FC.231(d)(1)): the grade is the lowest of HOW MANY, HOW OFTEN and the TEM outcome, where 'regularly' and 'safe situation' allow up to a 4, exactly as in the EASA table. HOW MANY is computed from the share of observable behaviours marked; those thresholds (90 / 60 / 40 / 20 %) are AviGrade's way of turning EASA's wording into numbers. IATA's five-level scale is available as an option in Settings.
Lite is a quick CBTA calculator for pilot competencies — nothing is saved when you close the app. Full unlocks session saving and management, instructor evaluation mode, two trainees per session, PDF export with signatures, iCloud sync, norms, backup and iPhone access. It is a one-time purchase with no subscription.
Yes, in the Full version. A single session supports up to two trainees. You can switch between seats during the evaluation, and each trainee gets their own independent competency profile, grades and signature on the PDF report.
Yes. The free Lite calculator runs on iPhone, so you can grade pilot competencies on the go. The Full version also runs on iPhone — iPhone access is included in the one-time purchase — and sessions created on iPad sync automatically via iCloud, so your saved records are always at hand.
AviGrade can create automatic backups daily or weekly, stored on your device. They are not encrypted, and they are deliberately left out of your iPad's iCloud backup: your sessions already sync through iCloud, so this avoids storing everything twice. For a copy you keep somewhere else, make a manual backup at any time — you can protect it with a password — export it as a file, and restore it later, for example on a new device.
